As we seek to find God's call on our life, there will be times when the path is not completely clear. We want to start down the road, but we are not sure where it might take us. Even when we don't have all the answers...God wants us to step out in FAITH.
Heb. 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we do not see.
In the story of Peter in Acts 10, he receives a vision from God. In the moment, he is not completely sure what the vision means. Looking back, we know it means that God wants the gospel to go to gentiles, but Peter doesn't know that. In fact, Luke (the writer of Acts) makes this very clear in verses 17 and 19.
17 Now while Peter was puzzling over what the vision he had seen could signify
19 While Peter was still thinking seriously about the vision
Even in the midst of his uncertainty, he took steps in faith. If you are ever gonna walk on water, you have to get out of the boat. Peter knew that all too well (Matt 14:29). If we are truly sold out for the mission of advancing the gospel, which God has called all people to, then what do we have to loose. God has created us to play a role in his story, not for him to play a part in ours.
Finding God's call on our lives is figuring out how we fit into the story. It is finding our sweet spot. It is using our gifts and wiring for the purpose and glory of God.
- How has God wired you? What is your calling?
- What makes you hesitant to follow that call?
- How can you take a small step today to overcome your fear?
